NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra HD 2500/3500 trucks; AUXILIARY BATTERY
Report Receipt Date: JUL 02, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V407000
Component(s): AUXILIARY BATTERY
Potential Number of Units Affected: 9,371

AUG 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500/3500 trucks manufactured January 18, 2007, to June 22, 2011, and GMC Sierra HD 2500/3500 trucks manufactured January 22, 2007, to June 21, 2011, and equipped with an auxiliary battery. Owners may unknowingly draw too much current through the vehicle's trailer harness resulting in the melting of fusible link for the auxiliary battery. If the fusible link melts it may come into contact with adjacent components, damage the electrical center cover, the nearby wiring harness conduit and other vehicle components, increasing the risk of a fire. GM will notify owners and dealers will replace the jumper harness with one that includes a 40 amp inline fuse, and provide the owner with supplemental Owner Manual information, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14260. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles; FLOOR MATS
Report Receipt Date: JUN 18, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V345000
Component(s):  FLOOR MATS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 184

JULY 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles manufactured May 15, 2013, to January 29, 2014, and GMC Sierra vehicles manufactured September 19, 2013, to February 8, 2014, and equipped with both optional accessory all-weather floor mats (option RPO VAV) and optional vinyl flooring (option RPO BG9). The affected vehicles built with the vinyl flooring option do not have the retention features necessary to properly secure the floor mat on the driver's side. The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. GM will notify owners, and reimburse the owner for the purchase price upon their return. The owners will also be provided an insert for their owners manual instructing them not to use floor mats, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14310. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NEWS: GM calls back 822,000 vehicles in 6 new campaigns
Detroit News  @ July 24, 2014

JULY 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday it is recalling 822,685 vehicles worldwide — including 717,950 vehicles in the United States — in six new recall campaigns.

In the latest of a long string of callbacks, most are for minor problems. None are related to ignition switch defects that have plagued the automaker.

The recalls mean GM North America has issued a record 60 recall campaigns this year affecting 28.77 million vehicles worldwide and 25.48 million in the United States. GM revised downward its June 30 recall of Malibus, Impalas and other vehicles for ignition switch problems by 1.02 million vehicles to 6.6 million worldwide.

The biggest recall announced Wednesday covers 475,000 newer cars and trucks worldwide (414,333 in the U.S.) with power height-adjustable driver or front passenger seats. A bolt that secures the seat could fall out, letting the seat move up and down. Affected models include the 2011-12 Chevrolet Camaro; 2010-12 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain; 2011-12 Buick Regal and LaCrosse; and 2010-12 Cadillac SRX. GM is aware of one crash and three injuries linked to the defect. Dealers will replace the bolt.

MORE RECALL INFO:

“These recalls signify how we’ve enhanced our approach to safety,” said Jeff Boyer, GM’s vice president of Global Vehicle Safety. “We are bringing greater rigor and discipline to our analysis and decision-making. If we identify an issue — large or small — that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively.”

GM had decided on four of the recalls last Tuesday, and GM CEO Mary Barra disclosed the higher total before a Senate committee.

Eric Ibara, director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, said GM’s latest recalls “involve models that are currently being sold by the various GM brands, unlike earlier recalls on discontinued models. Going forward, attention will be focused on whether sales and values are impacted on these models.”

More than half of GM’s 29 million vehicles recalled this year are ignition-switch related, including 2.6 million Cobalts, Ions and other cars linked to at least 13 deaths. GM has recalled nearly all nameplates of 2014 models except the Volt and some versions of models like the Spark EV.

Other recalls announced Wednesday include:

■ 124,008 -- 2014 Chevrolet Caprice; 2014 Chevrolet SS; 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD; 2013-14 Cadillac ATS; 2014 Cadillac CTS, 2014 Cadillac ELR; 2013-14 Buick Encore; and 2014-15 GMC Sierra LD and HD vehicles. Some may have an incomplete weld on the seat-hook bracket assembly. If the weld is incomplete, dealers will replace the lower seat track. Less than 1 percent of welds are expected to require fixes. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 120,426 -- 2011-13 Buick Regals and 2013 Chevrolet Malibus that use two bulbs in each front turn signal. The driver gets a rapidly flashing turn signal arrow in the instrument cluster if both bulbs in one turn signal are burned out; but if only one bulb on either side burns out, there would be no signal to the driver. Dealers will reprogram the body control module. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or complaints.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 57,242 -- 2014 Chevrolet Impalas equipped with belt-drive electric power steering. Owners may experience reduced or no power-steering assist at start-up or while driving due to a poor electrical ground connection. If power steering is lost, a warning message is displayed on the driver information center and a chime sounds. The cars will revert to manual steering mode, requiring greater to steer, particularly at low speed. Dealers will check the ground and update the power steering control module’s software. GM is aware of one crash but no injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 1,919 -- 2014-15 Chevrolet Sparks imported from Korea assembled with lower control arm bolts that were not fastened to specification. The condition could result in separation of the lower control arm from the steering knuckle, resulting in loss of steering control. Dealers will make sure the bolts are properly tightened. GM knows of no crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 22 -- 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali vehicles in the U.S. Roof carriers may have been attached with the wrong retaining nuts, resulting in holes or tears in the roof rail air bags if they deploy. Eight of these vehicles are in dealer stock and will be repaired before being sold.

Report Receipt Date: JUN 27, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V374000
Component(s): TRANSMISSION
Potential Number of Units Affected: 392,459

JULY 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles, and model year 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe vehicles. In the affected vehicles, an electrical signal short may cause the transfer case to shift to neutral without the driver's input. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not in use, the vehicle may roll away increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle would lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. GM will notify owners, and dealers will re-program the software in the transfer case control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early August 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14192. NEWS: GM recalls 472,000 vehicles in 3 new campaigns
Detroit News  @ June 27, 2014

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors Co. said late Friday it is issuing three new recall campaigns covering about 472,000 vehicles worldwide.

The latest recalls mean that GM has called back about 20.5 million vehicles worldwide this year including 18 million in the United States.

The largest of the recalls announced Friday covers about 465,000 new SUVs and pickup trucks that could accidentally shift into neutral while driving — or roll away if the parking brake is not set in unattended vehicles. It affects some 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras; the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban; and the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

Dealers will recalibrate transfer-case control module software. GM said that in these vehicles, the transfer case may electronically switch to neutral without the shifter being moved. If this occurs while a vehicle is in motion, no power will go to the wheels. If the vehicle is parked, it may roll away if the parking brake is not set. GM is not aware of crashes or injuries related to the issue.

The recall covers 392,459 pickups and SUVs in the U.S. and 53,607 in Canada. An additional 20,874 were sold elsewhere.

MORE RECALL INFO:

GM also is also recalling nearly 4,800 Chevrolet Caprice police cars and 2014 Chevrolet SS sport sedans in the United States for windshield wiper problems. If the motor gear teeth become stripped, the wipers may not operate. Dealers will inspect, and replace if necessary, the windshield wiper module assembly. GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

The rear shock absorbers in 1,939 2014 model-year Chevrolet Corvettes in the U.S. with the FE1 or FE3 suspension may have insufficient welds that could lead to a fracture or reduce the shocks’ service life. Dealers will replace the shocks. Thirty-three additional vehicles were sold in Canada and another 82 were exported. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban vehicles; SEAT BELTS
Report Receipt Date: JUN 06, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V301000
Component(s): SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 57,512

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban vehicles equipped with a base radio and an internal amplifier. The radios in the affected vehicles may become inoperative, and as a result, there would be no audible chime to notify the driver if the door is opened with the key in the ignition or no audible seat belt warning indicating the seat belts were not buckled. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention," and 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." Without an audible indicator, the driver may not be aware that the driver's door is open while the key is in the ignition, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway. Additionally, there would be no reminder that the driver's or front seat passenger's seat belt is not buckled, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the radio software, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14315. NEWS: GM recalls 3.4M cars for ignition switch problems
Detroit News  @ June 16, 2014

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Monday it is recalling nearly 3.4 million cars for ignition switch problems worldwide after reports of eight crashes and six injuries. It is one of six new recall campaigns totaling 3.6 million vehicles that was announced by the automaker.

The recall — which is similar to GM’s delayed recall of 2.6 million older Cobalt, Ion and other cars linked to 13 deaths and 54 crashes due to faulty ignition switches — comes as the automaker’s woes continue to mount. On Friday, GM recalled more than 510,000 current-generation Chevrolet Camaros for ignition switch problems linked to three crashes in which air bags failed to deploy.

In the ignition switch recall announced Monday, GM said it will rework or replace the ignition keys on some 2000-14 cars in the U.S. because the ignition switch may inadvertently move out of the “run” position if the key is carrying extra weight and experiences some jarring event. That causes the engine to stall, disabling power steering, power brakes and air bags.

Recalled cars include:

GM spokesman said now-fired engineer — who received much of the blame for the delayed recall in GM’s investigation, was the “design-release engineer” for the switches involved in the new recall announced Monday. Now-fired engineer signed off on the original Cobalt ignition switch in 2002 that didn’t meet GM’s specifications and approved an upgrade in the switch in 2005 and didn’t change the part number, the report found.

GM spokesman said the switches in the latest recall did meet GM’s specifications. He noted that unlike the Cobalt and Ion recall, the automaker isn't replacing the ignition switches, only the keys. GM will add an insert to the ignition keys of the recalled vehicles to close the slot and leave a smaller hole through which a key ring could be attached. In vehicles where the key cover has been worn, new keys with holes instead of slots will be provided free of charge.

Fixes are expected to begin in the next few weeks. Until then, owners of recalled cars are urged to remove additional weight from key chains and drive with only the ignition key.

GM said just one of the models included in the U.S. recall for ignition switch problems — which totals 3.16 million — is still in production: the previous-generation Chevrolet Impala, which is sold to rental fleets as the Impala Limited. The total number being recalled in North America — U.S., Canada, Mexico and exports — is 3.36 million.

In addition to the ignition key recall, GM also announced U.S. recalls for 165,770 vehicles in these five actions:

68,887 2013-14 Cadillac ATS and 21,863 2014 Cadillac CTS sedans. In some vehicles with automatic transmissions, the shift cable may not be fully secured to the shifter bracket or transmission bracket. If the shift cable comes out of the brackets, the driver may not be able to shift in or out of gear. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

57,192 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 GMC Sierra HD pickups to inspect for proper attachment of power steering hose clamps to the power steering pump. If hose comes loose, loss of power steering and power brakes would result. GM knows of no crashes or injuries.

16,932 2011 Cadillac CTS sedans with all-wheel drive. On some vehicles, a gasket leak where the constant velocity joint meets the rear propeller shaft may cause the rear propeller shaft to separate or become loose, making contact with the vehicle floor above and causing the rollover sensor to inflate roof-rail air bags. GM is aware of 15 unintended deployments, but injury data is unclear.

712 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes with optional Competition Sport Seats, because an unbelted child and door trim may block the passenger seat side air bag vent. Dealers will replace the bag. GM is unaware of any injuries related to this condition, but advises customers to not allow small children in the front seat until it’s serviced.

184 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups with vinyl floors and accessory all-weather floor mats purchased new with the vehicle. The mats can slip under the driver’s feet because the vinyl floors have no attachments to secure them in place. Customers are advised to take the floor mats to their dealer for a full refund. GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries.

GM has issued 44 recalls this year calling back 20 million vehicles worldwide, including 17.7 million in the United States — by far an all-time record. The tally includes some vehicles that have been called back more than once.

NEWS: GM recalling 105,000 vehicles in four campaigns
Detroit News  @ June 6, 2014

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Friday it is issuing four new recall campaigns covering nearly 150,000 vehicles in the United States — including three new recalls for air bag problems.

The largest recall involves 69,500 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LD, 2014 GMC Sierra LD and 2015 Silverado HD, Tahoe and Suburban and 2015 GMC Sierra HD and Yukon and Yukon XL models worldwide, 57,512 in the U.S. because the “base radio may not work, preventing audible warnings if the key is in the ignition when the driver’s door is opened. Nor would there be an audible chime if a front seat belt is not buckled. If they had this condition, the trucks would be out of compliance with motor vehicle safety standards covering theft protection, rollaway protection and occupant crash protection. Dealers will reprogram the radio control module free of charge.”

The Detroit automaker is also recalling 36,012 worldwide, 31,520 in the U.S., 2012 Buick Verano and Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze and Sonic compact cars for a defect in which the shorting bar inside the dual stage driver’s air bag may occasionally contact the air bag terminals. If contact occurs, the air bag warning light will turn on. GM said if the car and terminals are contacting each other in a crash, the air bag will not deploy. Dealers will replace the steering wheel air bag coil, which will eliminate contact any between the shorting bar and the air bag terminals. GM is aware of one crash with an injury where the relevant diagnostic trouble code was found at the time the vehicle was repaired. GM said it is aware of other crashes where air bags did not deploy but it is not known if they were related to this condition. This is the second time since 2012 that GM has expanded the recall population. Its previous recall for this condition involved 7,000 of these vehicles.

GM is also issuing two recalls of each less than 100 vehicles. GM is recalling 61 2013-2014 Chevrolet Spark and 2013 model year Buick Encores manufactured in Changwon, Korea from Dec. 30, 2012 through May 8, 2013 because the vehicles may have a condition in which the front passenger airbag end cap could separate from the airbag inflator. In a crash, this may prevent the passenger airbag from deploying properly.

GM is also recalling 33 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes in the U.S. because an internal short-circuit in the sensing and diagnostic module could disable frontal air bags, safety belt pretensioners and the Automatic Occupancy Sensing module. GM dealers will replace the module on the affected vehicles. GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to either of the small recalls.

NEWS: General Motors is recalling certain 2009-2014 Buick Enclave; Chevrolet Traverse; GMC Acadia and 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles; SEAT BELTS
Report Receipt Date: MAY 20, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V266000
Component(s): SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,339,355

MAY 2014 -- General Motors is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through May 14, 2014, Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured June 6, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured April 9, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through March 18, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time. If the steel cable becomes fatigued and separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant increasing the risk of an injury in a crash. General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair and replace the lap pretensioner, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. NEWS: General Motors adds 1.7 million more vehicles to recall list
Detroit Free Press  @ May 20, 2014

MAY 2014 -- General Motors today issued a new series of four recalls, spanning 2.4 million U.S. vehicles for a variety of issues and doubling the charges against second quarter earnings from $200 million to $400 million.

The decision brings to 29 the number of GM recalls. Globally, the automaker has now recalled more than 15 million vehicles in 2014, the company’s all-time record and more than 14 million Toyota recalled in 2009 and 2010.

GM said it had not identified any deaths associated with the latest round of recalls, which are unrelated to an ignition switch defect that has resulted in several government investigations and a slew of lawsuits.

For one of the recalls, GM ordered dealers to stop selling the 2015 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV told 224 customers who took possession not to let anyone sit in the front-passenger seat until the problem is fixed. The large SUVs have an insufficiently heated plastic weld that attaches the passenger side air bag to the instrument panel assembly. The problem could cause the an airbag to not deploy correctly.

The new recalls are:

■ 1,075,102 units of the 2004-08 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2005-08 Pontiac G6 because of a shift cable that could deteriorate, causing the driver to shift into unexpected gears. The company said the issue has been connected to 18 crashes and one injury. The company said the Malibu and G6 recall was related to an issue that resulted in an April 29 recall of some 2007-08 Saturn Aura sedans.

■ The 2009-14 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia full-size crossovers and 2009-10 Saturn Outlooks, reflecting 1,339,355 vehicles, to fix a front safety belt that could wear out and break over time. The crossovers are made in Lansing area plants.

■ 1,402 2015 Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs (as described above).

■ 58 heavy-duty 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra fullsize pickups “because retention clips attaching the generator fuse block to the vehicle body can become loose and lead to a potential fire.”

NEWS: General Motors adds 1.7 million more vehicles to recall list
Detroit Free Press  @ March 29, 2014

MARCH 2014 -- General Motors is expanding its ignition switch recall by nearly a million cars and recalling about 680,000 new vehicles for unrelated defects, reflecting a compounding series of quality problems that threaten to distract consumers.

The automaker on Friday added 970,700 vehicles to its ignition switch recall — bringing the total number to more than 2.5 million — after acknowledging that 5,000 small cars in the 2008 through 2011 model years may have had good switches replaced with bad ones.

The ignition switch recall — which previously covered 1.6 million small cars from the 2003 through 2007 model years — now includes all versions of the Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Pontiac G5.

All of those vehicles were made through 2010, except the HHR, which was also made in 2011. The expanded recall affects 824,000 vehicles in the U.S., 132,000 in Canada, 5,700 in Mexico and 9,000 in the rest of the world.

Separately, the company announced late Friday that it is recalling 490,200 pickup trucks and SUVs made within the last year and is recalling about 190,000 units of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan from the 2013 and 2014 model years.....

All of its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks — its best-selling line of vehicles — as well as brand-new 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs with 6-speed transmissions.

The truck and SUV recall, which covers 490,200 units in the U.S., is aimed at fixing a “transmission oil cooler line that is not securely seated in its fitting,” GM said in a statement. The situation has created at least three “incidents” with no injuries, GM said.

“If the line is not securely seated and transmission oil leaks from the fitting, the oil could contact a hot surface and result in a vehicle fire,” GM said.

The 2013 and 2014 Cruze with 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engines, accounting for about one-third of dealer inventory for the compact sedan. The company said the vehicles need new right-front axle half shafts that “can fracture and separate without warning.”

GM said the Cruze defect has affected at least several dozen vehicles, according to its own warranty data, but that it is not aware of any related crashes or injuries.

NEWS: GM recalls another 1.8 million vehicles amid safety probe
Yahoo News  @ March 17, 2014

MARCH 2013 -- General Motors announced its second massive recall in two months on Monday as it works to contain a growing scandal over the safety of its vehicles.

The latest recall of nearly 1.8 million vehicles linked to three new problems comes as a result of an internal probe into why it took the largest US automaker so long to acknowledge a deadly ignition defect.

Monday's recall covered three different defects unrelated to the ignition problems, none tied to reports of accidents or injuries, GM said.

The bulk of the vehicles recalled Monday -- more than 1.5 million -- were sold in the United States. Some 97,000 were sold in Canada and the remainder were sold in other markets around the world.

Of the vehicles recalled Monday, some 1.3 million were due to a defective service air bag warning light.

The defect could prevent air bags and seat belts from deploying during a crash.

That recall affects Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia models from the 2008-2013 model years, Chevrolet Traverse from the 2009-2013 model years, and Saturn Outlook from the 2008-2010 model years.

A failure to comply with a head impact requirement for unrestrained occupants led to the recall of 355,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana from the 2009-2014 model years.

A problem with a brake booster pump which has been linked to two engine fires in unsold vehicles at dealerships led to the recall of 66,000 Cadillac XTS full-size sedan from the 2013 and 2014 model years.

MARCH 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia and 2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse and 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harnesses may result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying in the event of a crash. Failure of the side impact air bags and seat belt pretensioners to deploy in a crash increase the risk of injury to the driver and front seat occupant. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. MARCH 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans manufactured January 27, 2009, through March 7, 2014 with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds and less and equipped with front passenger air bags. In the affected vehicles, during a frontal impact below the air bag deployment threshold, if an unbelted front passenger's head hits the instrument panel above where the passenger air bag is located, the panel may not sufficiently absorb the impact. As such, these vehicles fail to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact." In the event of a crash below the air bag deployment threshold, an unbelted front passenger seat occupant has an increased risk of injury. GM will notify owners. MARCH 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention." If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders. General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in late March 2014. NEWS: GM recalling 370,000 full-size trucks for fire risks
Detroit News @ January 10, 2014

JANUARY 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Friday it will recall 370,000 full-size pickup trucks for fire risks after eight reported fires — and the automaker is urging owners not to leave trucks unattended while idling.

The Detroit automaker said it will recall the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra to reprogram software that could lead to overheating of exhaust components, potentially causing engine compartment fires.

GM is contacting customers to alert them of the potential issue, which often is signaled by a continuous yellow “check engine light” and an “engine power reduced” message in the driver information center. GM has confirmed eight fires from this condition, “three of which were on customer owned vehicles, but no injuries. All occurred in areas with very cold weather.”

Recall letters will be mailed Jan. 16, but customers can contact dealers for appointments beginning early next week., GM said The repair will take about 20 minutes. Until then, customers are urged to avoid leaving their trucks to idle unattended.

GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Friday it would recall about 303,000 trucks with 4.3-liter V-6 and 5.3-liter V-8 engines in the U.S. Approximately 67,000 additional trucks that were exported and sold in Canada and Mexico also are being recalled. Trucks with 6.2-liter V-8 engines are not part of the recall.
