NEWS: Honda expands recall for Honda
Odyssey for Front Suspension
DECEMBER 2011 --
Honda is recalling
certain model year 2012, Odyssey vehicles manufactured from October 31, 2011,
through November 30, 2011. The retention nut for the front right lower
suspension damper bolt may not have been tightened to the proper torque,
potentially allowing the nut to loosen. If the nut loosens, the front hub
assembly would only be attached by one bolt, allowing the wheel assembly to
shift to an extreme inward angle, resulting in a loss of steering, increasing
the risk of a crash. Honda contacted all nine owners by phone on December 19,
2011, and repaired the vehicles as necessary free of charge. 11V-602

NEWS: Honda expands recall for Honda
and Acura air bag defect
DECEMBER
2011
-- In December 2011, this recall was expanded to include an additional 272,779
vehicles and 640 air bags sold as replacement parts. Because Honda is unable to
ascertain on which vehicles the 604 replacement air bags were installed, an
additional 603,241 vehicles are also being recalled. The total number of
vehicles being recalled is now 1,709,477. This recall concerns certain vehicles
falling within the following make, model, and model year populations, inclusive
of this expansion: model year 2001-2002 Honda Accord, model year 2001-2003 Civic
2-door and 4-door model, model year 2002-2003 CR-V, model year 2001-2003
Odyssey, model year 2003 Acura CL, model year 2003 pilot and model year
2002-2003 Acura TL vehicles. This recall is related to a series of recalls on
these vehicles in which Honda is replacing the inflators within the driver's
side air bag to address a defective condition. This recall addresses both air
bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air
bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement
air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a
crash necessitating the replacement of the driver's air bag. In the event of a
crash necessitating deployment of the driver's air bag, the inflator could
produce excessive internal pressure that could cause the inflator to rupture
with metal fragments striking and injuring the driver or other occupants. Owners
of all vehicles on which a replacement service air bag may have been installed
will be notified. Dealers will inspect vehicles, and where a defective air bag
inflator is identified, the inflator will be replaced, free of charge. The
safety recall began on or about june 27, 2011. Owners of vehicles involved in
the december 2011 expansion will be notified in december 2011. This safety
recall campaign is related to recalls 08v-593, 09v-259, and 10v-041. Owners may
also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety
hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov

NEWS: Honda
recalls 304,035 cars globally for air bag defect
YAHOO NEWS -- December 2, 2011 Honda
Motor Co. announced today it has recalled 304,000 vehicles globally because they
may contain defective air bags.
The global recall affects some of Honda and Acuras most popular models,
including the Accord, Civic, Odyssey and Pilot, over concerns that the vehicles
air bags could burst in a crash due to defective inflators, sending metal and
plastic pieces flying and potentially causing injury or death.
Some 273,000 of the cars recalled are in the U.S.
and Canada, Honda said.
The recall announced today by the Japanese
automaker is the sixth recall since 2008 for the same problem, and brings the
total number of cars recalled to nearly 2 million.
By comparison, rival carmaker Toyota has recalled
about 12 million vehicles in the past two years, according to the Associated
Press.
Earlier this year, Honda recalled nearly 700,000
vehicles in Asia and North America citing stalling engines.
Honda said there have been 20 accidents so far
related to the air bag problem, including two deaths in the U.S., both in 2009.
The specific list of cars affected by Hondas

SEPTEMBER 2011
-- Honda is recalling certain model year 2006 CR-V passenger cars manufactured
from October 3, 2005, through July 21, 2006. The driver-side power window switch
may fail or melt. If the switch fails, the power windows may become inoperative
preventing them from being rolled up or down. If the switch melts, it will
produce smoke and a fire could occur. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will
replace the driver side power window switch assembly free of charge. The safety
recall is expected to begin on or about October 5, 2011. 11V-456
SEPTEMBER 2011
-- Honda is recalling certain model year 2011 CR-Z passenger cars with manual
transmissions, manufactured from January 8, 2010, through June 27, 2011. Should
the engine stall while the brake pedal is not pressed, there is a possibility
that the engine control unit (ECU) software may cause the electric motor of the
hybrid system to move the vehicle unexpectedly in the opposite direction of the
selected gear. Unexpected vehicle movement could increase the risk of a crash or
personal injury to the persons in the path of the moving vehicle. Honda will
notify owners, and dealers will update the ECU software, free of charge. The
safety recall began on September 26, 2011. 11V-458
SEPTEMBER 2011
-- Honda is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Pilot vehicles manufactured
from March 13, 2008, through August 30, 2011. There is a possibility that the
stitching that secures the end of the driver and front passenger lap section of
the seatbelt may be incomplete or missing. If the stitching is incomplete or
missing, the seatbelt may detach from the anchor webbing, increasing the risk of
personal injury in a crash. Honda dealers will conduct a specialized inspection
of the driver and front passenger seatbelts, and if necessary, replace the
seatbelts, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about
October 3, 2011. 11V-468

Honda recalls 310,773 Pilots in the US
DETROIT NEWS -- September 9, 2011 Honda
Motor Co. says it is recalling 310,773 Pilot vehicles in the U.S. to inspect and
potentially replace the front seat belts due to problems with the belts'
stitching.
Honda said Friday it is voluntarily recalling
Pilots from the 2009 through 2011 model years.
The automaker says that the driver- and
front-passenger seat belts may have been manufactured improperly.
The stitching connecting the lap section of the
belts to the outboard anchor webbing may be incomplete or missing. That means
the belts may potentially come loose in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Honda says there have been no injuries because of
the defects.
Honda wants owners of the recall-affected Pilots
to take them to an authorized dealer for inspection when they receive a recall
notice.

Honda recalling 86,000 vehicles in U.S. for fire, rollaway
concerns
DETROIT NEWS -- September 4, 2011
Honda Motor Co. said early Sunday it is recalling nearly 86,000 vehicles in two
separate campaigns including one to address possible fire concerns.
With the new recalls, Honda has now called back
more vehicles than it did in all of 2010.
Honda said it is recalling 80,111 2006 CR-V
vehicles to replace the power window master switch after the U.S. government
said it had reports of five fires.
The design of the power window master switch can
allow residue from interior cleaners to accumulate, which can, over time with
switch use, cause the electrical contacts to degrade and lead to a fire in the
switch, the Japanese automaker said.
Honda said no injuries or deaths have been
reported in connection with the CR-V issue.
In April, the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration upgraded an investigation into the 2006 CR-V after the agency had
received five reports alleging smoke and fire occurred inside the driver's door.
It received another 24 complains that didn't include fires.
Separately, Honda will voluntarily recall
5,626 2011 CR-Z in the United States equipped with manual transmissions to
update the software that controls the hybrid electric motor.
Honda said when the gasoline engine has stalled
with the battery in a very low state of charge and the transmission in gear, it
is possible for the electric motor to rotate in the direction opposite to that
selected by the transmission. If this occurs and the driver has not engaged the
brakes, the vehicle might slowly roll in an unexpected direction. Honda said it
could roll backwards when the transmission is in a forward gear potentially
leading to a crash.
Honda will upgrade the software to correct the
problem. No injuries or deaths have been reported related to this condition.
Honda will begin notifying customers in
September.
The automaker has reported two large recalls
recently.
Honda said last month it was recalling 1.51
million vehicles in the United States to address complaints of engine stalls and
vehicles shifting out of park part of a worldwide recall of 2.5 million
vehicles.
In May, Honda boosted a recall of vehicles for
air bags that can deploy with too much pressure by 833,000. The recall was
expanded to 2001-03 Honda and Acura models that might have the original driver's
air bag module replaced with an affected service part. Honda has now called back
1.6 million vehicles over the issue since 2008. At least 12 incidents and one
death are linked to the issue since 2010.
Honda recalled 2.4 million vehicles in the United
States in 2010 the third highest number behind Toyota Motor Corp. and
General Motors Co

Honda to recall 1.5 million vehicles in US
YAHOO NEWS -- August 4, 2011 Honda to
recall 1.5 million vehicles in US
Honda Motor said Friday it will recall about 1.5
million vehicles in the United States to update the software that controls their
automatic transmission.
Honda said in a press release on its US site that
the vehicles in the voluntary recall will include certain Accord, CR-V and
Element models.
No injuries or deaths have been reported related
to this condition, the statement said.
The Japanese carmaker will also recall 760,000
Honda models sold in China to fix the same problem, Japan's Kyodo news agency
reported.
A bearing in the automatic transmission system
was not built with sufficient strength and as a result the transmission system
may emit an abnormal noise or cause the engine to stall under certain gear shift
operations, Honda said.
Similar Honda models are sold in Canada, Europe
and other markets. Altogether, 2.49 million Honda models installed with the
faulty transmission are involved, Kyodo quoted Honda officials as saying.
They said the affected Honda models are not sold
in Japan.
Honda has received reports of an abnormal
transmission noise and transmission malfunctions but there have been no reports
of accidents, the company said

AUGUST 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Accord, 2007-2010 CR-V,
and 2005-2008 Element passenger cars manufactured from July 1, 2004, through
September 3, 2010. The outer race of the secondary shaft bearing may be broken
during certain driving styles. A broken outer race may cause abnormal noise, the
malfunction indicator light to turn on, and allow contact between the
transmission idle gear and an electronic sensor housing within the transmission.
This could result in a short circuit causing the engine to stall. Additionally,
broken pieces of the outer race or ball bearing from the secondary shaft may
become lodged in the parking pawl resulting in the vehicle rolling after the
driver has placed the gear selector in the park position. Engine stall and
unexpected vehicle movement increases the risk of a crash or personal injury to
persons within the path of a rolling vehicle. Honda will notify owners and
dealers will update the automatic transmission control module software free of
charge. The safety recall began on August 27, 2011. Honda's recall
campaign number is R89. 11V-395 |

MAY 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2012 Civic 2-door and 4-door vehicles
manufactured from April 21, 2011, through May 2, 2011. There is a possibility
that an o-ring, which seals a connection in the fuel feed line, is misaligned.
If the o-ring is misaligned, a small fuel leak may occur. Fuel leakage, in the
presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Dealers will replace the
fuel feed line assembly, free of charge. The safety recall began on May 27,
2011. 11V-288 APRIL 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2001-2002 Honda Accord, and Civic 2-door
and 4-door, model year 2002-2003 CR-V, model year 2002 Odyssey, model year 2003
Acura CL, and model year 2002-2003 Acura TL vehicles. This recall is related to
a series of recalls on these vehicles in which Honda is replacing the inflators
within the driver's side air bag to address a defective condition. This recall
addresses approximately 2,430 air bags that may have been installed as
replacement service parts in the event, for one example, a covered vehicle had
been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the driver's air bag, and the
replacement air bag installed was one that may have contained a defective
inflator. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's air
bag, the inflator could produce excessive internal pressure that could cause the
inflator to rupture with metal fragments striking and injuring the driver or
other occupants. Owners of all vehicles on which a replacement service air bag
may have been installed will be notified. Dealers will inspect vehicles, and
where a defective air bag inflator is identified, the inflator will be replaced,
free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about June 27,
2011. This safety recall campaign is related to recalls 08V-593,
09V-259, and 10V-041.
MARCH 2011 -- Honda is recalling certain
model year 2006-2007 Honda Civic hybrid vehicles. There is a potential for the
voltage converter that relays power from the integrated motor assist (IMA)
system to the vehicle's electrical components to fail. This failure will cause
the headlights to turn off, the engine to stall, and prevent the vehicle from
being restarted, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the
voltageconverter free of charge. The safety recall began on March 25, 2011.
11V-106
MARCH 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2011 Honda Civic vehicles. To prevent
fuel from leaking out of a vehicle's fuel tank into the evaporative emissions
canister in the event a roll-over incident occurs, the fuel pump module is
equipped with a roll over valve (ROV). Due to improper ultrasonic welding of the
plastic case that houses the ROV within the fuel pump module, the case material
may break or crack, which may cause the ROV to separate from the case and fail
to function, thereby increasing the risk of fuel leakage in a roll-over
incident. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a
fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel pump module and if necessary replace the
module free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before April
11, 2011. 11V-176
MARCH 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2011 Honda Odyssey vehicles. If the
front windshield wiper blades become frozen to the windshield and the wiper
motor is switched on, one of the front windshield wiper linkage rods may bend or
separate from the motor due to insufficient stiffness of the rod. The windshield
wipers may fail to operate, decreasing the driver's visibility in adverse
weather conditions increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the
front windshield wiper rod free of charge. The safety recall is expected to
begin on or before April 14, 2011. 11V-180
MARCH 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2011 Honda Odyssey vehicles. There is
a potential failure with the driver and the front passenger door power windows
in which the window may come off the track causing the window to become
inoperative and preventing it from being rolled up or down or it could drop into
the door. The window may shatter into the passenger cabin causing a risk of
injury to the vehicle occupants. Dealers will replace either the passenger's
and/or the driver's front door window glass, free of charge. The safety recall
is expected to begin on or before April 15, 2011. 11V-181 |

NEWS:
Honda adds 833,000 vehicles to airbag recall
YAHOO NEWS -- May 4, 2011 Honda Motor Co Ltd
expanded an earlier recall of Honda and Acura vehicles over airbags that could
deploy with too much pressure, causing injuries or fatalities, the company said.
The expanded recall adds more than 833,000
vehicles for the model years 2001 through 2003.
Some of these vehicles contain replacement
airbags that could contain the defect. Honda is looking for 2,430 replacement
airbags that could contain the defect, but could not locate them all, leading to
the large recall.
This is the fourth time Honda has widened its
airbag recall. The first recall related to this issue was in 2008.
The number of vehicles affected now stands at
1.65 million, according to figures reported to the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration.
These additional vehicles were not included in
earlier safety recalls because the original airbag modules on the driver's side
were not affected by the issue. But replacement airbags could contain the
defect, Honda said.
Honda told safety regulators that just 0.29
percent of the affected vehicles are likely to contain the defect.
In certain vehicles, excess pressure could cause
the airbag inflator to rupture. Metal fragments could pass through the airbag
cushion material causing injury or even a fatality.
A "small number" of injuries and two fatalities
are linked to the airbag recalls, Honda spokeswoman Christina Ra said. These
were not recent and did not kick off this move, Ra said.
The recall includes some 2001 and 2002 Accord and
Civic sedans, 2002 Odyssey minivans and 2002 and 2003 CR-V crossover vehicles.
It also includes 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 3.2 CL vehicles.

Honda recalls minivans in U.S. for window problem
YAHOO NEWS -- March 11, 2011 Honda Motor
Co Ltd is recalling 2,800 of its Odyssey minivans to repair potentially faulty
windows.
There is a potential failure with the driver and
front-passenger door power windows in the affected 2011 models in which the
window may come off the track and become inoperative or drop into the door,
according to a U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
The window may shatter into the passenger cabin,
so Honda is replacing those windows, NHTSA said. The recall is expected to begin
on or before April 15.
No crashes or injuries have been reported related
to the defect, Honda said.
Earlier this month, Honda recalled more than
33,000 2011 Odyssey minivans due to a possible windshield wiper defect.

Honda recalls 37,000 Civic Hybrid cars in US
YAHOO NEWS -- March 7, 2011 Honda recalls
37,000 Civic Hybrid cars in US
In the latest defect recall to hit Japanese
automakers, Honda said Thursday it will recall nearly 37,000 Civic Hybrids in
the United States.
Honda said a faulty converter in the hybrid
control system could lead to the engine stalling and malfunction of the
headlights.
No injuries or accidents have been reported in
relation to the problem, which affects 2006 and 2007 models.
It comes two weeks after Honda said it was
recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles worldwide due to defective parts that could
stall the engine and cause problems restarting in certain models.
Honda has now recalled more than four million
vehicles since February 2010 over a range of different issues, while Nissan has
pulled around 3.5 million in the same period.
Toyota became mired in crisis when it recalled
nearly nine million vehicles between late 2009 and February last year due to
brake and accelerator defects linked to deadly accidents that tarnished its
image of reliability.
As criticism mounted of its slow response and
bureaucratic inflexibility, Toyota tightened its recall policy and has pulled
around 16 million units since late 2009 over a range of issues.

JANUARY 2011 -
Honda is recalling certain model year 2010 Honda Accord and CR-V vehicles.
There is a potential failure with the engine wiring harness connector which may
cause intermittent spark firing or the engine to stall. An engine stall will
increase the risk of a crash. Dealer will inspect and replace the ignition
wiring harness connector free of charge. The safety recall began on January 24,
2011. 11V-004
DECEMBER 2010
- Honda is recalling model year 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles. Due to an error
during installation of the wiring harness for the combination switch that
controls low head beam function, the wires for the lower beam circuit were
pulled tighter than intended. After repeated use of the headlight switch, the
electrical connector terminal for the low beam headlight circuit can become worn
as a result of this tension, which can result in low conductivity and cause an
accumulation of copper oxide in the area of the contacts. The low beam
headlights can become inoperative decreasing the driver's visibility as well as
the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the low beam terminal and perform necessary repairs free of
charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before January 21, 2011.

have been properly tightened which may result in loss of steering. The spindle
nuts for the axle on the Accord V6 may not have been tightened properly which
may result in excessive noise and/or loss of steering. Loss of steering
increases the risk of a crash. Dealer will inspect and replace any loose front
damper bracket bolts or spindle nuts on the Pilot if necessary. Dealer will
inspect and replace the spindle nuts on the Accord V6 if necessary. The safety
recall began on December 28, 2010. 10V-640

Honda recalling Passport SUVs over suspension
YAHOO NEWS -- December
17, 2010 Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 35,000 Passport sport
utility vehicles to inspect brackets on the rear
suspension that could detach and lead to a crash.
The recall announced
Friday involves Passports from the 1998-2002 model
years and is limited to 21 states and the District
of Columbia where road salt is used during the
winter.
Honda says the front
bracket of the rear suspension lower trailing links
could corrode and the bracket could break off from
the frame. Honda spokesman ..said the government
received 33 complaints from owners but no injuries
were reported.
The recall covers SUVs
in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,
Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan,
Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New
York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont,
West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Honda spokesman said the
problem was not related to a similar recall

more than 600,000 minivans in the U.S. and Canada
this year over concerns the rear axle could break,
affecting the vehicle's handling.
Honda said it expected
to notify owners beginning Friday and encouraged
owners to take their vehicles to an authorized

NHTSA opens investigations into Honda, Kia vehicles
DETROIT NEWS -- November
29, 2010 Washington The National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened
investigations into electrical issues on the 2006
Honda CR-V and shifting issues with the 2007 Kia
Optima.
The probes both opened
after just three complaints are the latest
examples of how federal safety regulators are
opening more investigations into potential safety
issues than in recent years and moving faster than
in the past.
In the first, NHTSA is
investigating 150,000 2006 Honda CR-V models after
reports of melting or burning of the master power
window switch and related electrical system wiring
components. All three complaints alleged fires in
the driver's door related to the driver's master
power window switch.
Separately, NHTSA is
also probing 41,000 2007 Kia Optima models over
complaints that the automatic transmission shift
cable may detach from the shifter assembly. If this
occurs, the transmission gear shifter becomes
inoperative.
NHTSA said it had
received three complaints concerning automatic
transmission shift cable detachment and inability to
engage the gears (park, drive and reverse) in model
year 2007 Kia Optima vehicles. "One of the
complaints also reported is a rollaway incident
after parking the vehicle," NHTSA said.
In 2007, Kia Motors
issued a technical service bulletin concerning
incorrectly installed automatic transmission shift
cables in certain model year 2006 and 2007 Kia
Optima vehicles. The bulletin said that over time
these cables can detach from the shifter assemblies'
dowel pins resulting in the inability to select or
engage drive gears. NHTSA noted that difficulty
engaging park may also occur.
Honda and Kia didn't
immediately return calls seeking comment.
NHTSA came under harsh
criticism from Congress earlier this year in the
wake of Toyota Motor Corp.'s sudden acceleration
issues and the disclosure that NHTSA had not done
more to force Toyota to make fixes in response to
complaints.

OCTOBER 2010 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2005-2007
Odyssey and Acura RL vehicles. Brake fluid containing polymers is used that acts
as a lubricant for certain brake system components. If replacement brake fluid
is used that does not contain such polymers, or that contains only small
amounts, a part of the rubber seal located at the rear of the brake master
cylinder may become dry, and the seal may curl during movement of the piston. If
this occurs, a small amount of brake fluid could slowly leak from the seal into
the brake booster. A leak of brake fluid could lead to a change in brake pedal
feel and overtime a degradation in braking performance increasing the risk of a
crash. Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder seal free of charge. The
recall is expected to begin during December 2010. . 10V-504 |

braking power, the same issue that led Toyota Motor Corp. to recall 1.5 million
vehicles.
Honda says the recall affects certain 2005-2007
model year Acura RL sedans and Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2005 to early
2007 model year.
Honda says it does not immediately know how many
vehicles will be covered by the recall.
There have been no injuries or accidents tied to
the problem.
The Japanese automaker says it plans to
officially notify the U.S. government of the recall on Thursday.

SEPTEMBER 2010
-- Honda is recalling certain model year 2010 Accord Crosstour vehicles. The
front passenger airbag may not have been assembled according to correct
specifications. In the event of a crash, the front passenger airbag may not
deploy as intended and could place an unbelted child seated in the front
passenger seat at greater risk of injury should the airbag deploy. Dealers will
inspect and replace the passenger airbag module if necessary free of charge. The
safety recall began on September 20, 2010. 10V-402
AUGUST 2010 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2010 Element automatic transmission
vehicles manufactured from April 1, 2010 through June 25, 2010. During assembly
process, the cable that connects the shift lever to the transmission was not set
correctly at the shift lever bracket. As a result the driver may move the gear
shift lever but the transmission may not be placed in the selected gear. This
can cause the key to be stuck in the ignition switch, an inability to shift into
or out of park, or an inability to shift into reverse, increasing the risk of a
crash. Honda has contacted some owners by phone and arranged to, have, or has
had, their vehicles repaired free of charge. All other owners will be notified
by mail. Dealers will correctly set the shift cable bushing. The safety recall
began on August 9, 2010. 10V-361
AUGUST 2010 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2003 Honda Accord, Civic two and four
door, and model year 2003-2004 Honda Element vehicles. The interlock lever of
the ignition switch may unexpectedly deform, which can allow the interlock
function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated. Removal of
the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic
transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to
roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will remove the original
interlock pin and lever within the ignition switch, and replace them with new,
designed components. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety
recall is expected to begin on or about September 29, 2010.

NEWS:
Honda recalls 383,000 US vehicles on ignition problem
Honda on Monday announced
the recall of 383,000
vehicles in the United
States because of problems
with the ignition which
could allow drivers to
remove their key when the
vehicle is not in the park
position.
Honda said some ignition
locking devices became
damaged or worn over time,
allowing the key to be
removed when the
transmission is not in park.
If that occurs, the vehicle
could roll away and cause an
accident, Honda said.
"Honda has received several
complaints about such
failures in these vehicles
and is aware of a small
number of related incidents,
including one that resulted
in a minor injury," the
Japanese automaker said in a
statement.
The recall affects
approximately 197,000 Accord
and 117,000 Civic vehicles
from the 2003 model year and
roughly 69,000 Element
vehicles from the 2003 and
2004 model years.
Honda last week recalled 585
Element vehicles from the
2010 model year to reset the
automatic transmission shift
cable.
"During vehicle assembly,
some shift cables were not
installed correctly, and
over time the cable may
become partially
disconnected," Honda said.
"As a result, a driver may
move the gear shift lever
but the transmission may not
be placed in the selected
gear."
Honda said it had received a
small number of customer
complaints related to the
gear selector mechanism, but
no incidents or injuries
were reported.

APRIL 2010 -- Honda is recalling certain
model year 2010 Acura ZDX passenger cars manufactured between November 12, 2009
and March 22, 2010. During the manufacturing process, the dashboard covering
material may have not been properly laser scored to allow complete deployment of
the front passenger's SRS airbag. In the event of a crash, the airbag will not
deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury. Honda will notify owners and
Acura dealers will inspect the dashboard covering material and replace if
necessary free of charge. The safety recall began on April 21, 2010. . Honda's
recall campaign number is R34. 10V-145
APRIL 2010 -- Honda is recalling certain
model year 2004 through 2008 Acura TSX passenger vehicles manufactured between
September 25, 2002 and February 13, 2008. Prolonger high under hood temperatures
may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely and may cause the
hose to crack and leak power steering oil. Oil leaking onto a hot exhaust pipe
will generate smoke and a burning smell, and could potentially result in an
under hood fire. Honda will notify owners and dealers will repair the vehicles
free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about May 28, 2010.

MARCH 2010 -
Honda has notified NHTSA of
a defect in certain model
year 2007 and 2008 Odyssey
and Element passenger
vehicles manufactured
between July 28, 2006 and
August 21, 2008. Air can
enter the VSA modular pump
during an initial self-check
process that occurs shortly
after each time the engine
is started.It is possible
for enough air to enter the
system to result in a brake
pedal that feels soft or
lower to thefloor. If the
owner does not have any
brake service or maintenance
performed over a period of
months or years, the system
can continue to accumulate
enough air to affect braking
performance, increasing the
riskof a crash. Honda will
notify owners and Honda
dealers will repair the VSA
modulator by removing any
existing air in the brake
system then apply sealant
and caps to prevent air from
entering the brake system
free of charge. The safety
recall is expected to begin
during May 2010.

NEWS:
Honda
to recall 410,000 vehicles
for brake problem
YAHOO NEWS March 16, 2010
Honda Motor Co. will
recall more than 410,000
Odyssey minivans and Element
small trucks because of
braking system problems that
could make it tougher to
stop the vehicle if not
repaired.
The recall includes 344,000
Odysseys and 68,000 Elements
from the 2007 and 2008 model
years.
Honda said in a statement
that over time, brake pedals
can feel "soft" and must be
pressed closer to the floor
to stop the vehicles. Left
unrepaired, the problem
could cause loss of braking
power and possibly a crash,
Honda spokesman.....said.
"It's definitely not
operating the way it should,
and it's safety systems, so
it brings it to the recall
status," he said.
The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration has
reported three crashes due
to the problem with minor
injuries and no deaths,
Martin said. Honda notified
NHTSA of the recall on
Monday, he said.
Honda has traced the problem
to the device that powers
the electronic stability
control system, which
selectively brakes each of
the wheels to keep the
vehicles upright during an
emergency situation.
When the device, called a
"vehicle stability assist
modulator," tests itself
when the vehicles are
started, it allows a small
amount of air into the
hydraulic brake lines. Over
time, an air bubble in the
lines can cause a loss of
braking power and require
that the pedal be pushed
farther toward the floor
than normal to stop the
vehicles, said.
"Although not all vehicles
being recalled are affected
by this issue, we are
recalling all possible units
to assure all customers that
their vehicles will perform
correctly," Honda said in a
statement.
Under the recall, which
Honda said it volunteered to
do, Honda said that owners
should wait to get a letter
from the company before
scheduling a repair because
the parts are not yet
available. Letters should go
out toward the end of April.
Drivers who fear that
they've lost braking power
should have their dealer
check the brakes sooner,
...said. The dealer can
"bleed" air bubbles out of
the hydraulic lines, which
should fix the problem until
the parts arrive for the
final repair, he said.
Honda technicians will put
plastic caps and sealant
over two small holes in the
device to stop the air from
getting in, ... said.
The automaker is still
preparing a list of affected
vehicles. After April 19,
owners can determine if
their vehicles are being
recalled by going to http://www.recalls.honda.com
or by calling (800)
999-1009, and selecting
option number four.
The safety recall is Honda's
second in the past two
months. In February it
recalled 952,118 vehicles
globally due to air bag
problems.
It comes on the heels of
Toyota Motor Corp.'s spate
of safety recalls that
include more than 8 million
vehicles worldwide for
braking and sudden
acceleration problems.
One of the Toyota recalls is
a braking software problem
that causes the pedal of the
Prius gas-electric hybrid to
momentarily drop toward the
floor.
Ford Motor Co. had a similar
software problem with its
Ford Fusion and Mercury
Milan hybrids. The company
told owners of 17,600 cars
to bring them in for a
software update because a
glitch can give drivers the
impression that the brakes
have failed when they
haven't.
The automaker called the
repairs a "customer
satisfaction program" and
said it was not a
full-fledged recall.

improvement campaign
involving certain model year
2005 Odyssey Touring
vehicles equipped with power
operated rear liftgate. The
power liftgate gas struts
may deteriorate unexpectedly
early. Struts that have worn
out prematurely may fail to
hold the power liftgate in
the fully open position,
causing the power liftgate
to close unexpectedly.
Injury may result from a
power liftgate closing
unexpectedly when a person
is within the closing path
of the liftgate. Dealers
will inspect the gas
liftgate struts and replace

A wiring harness connector
for the heating, ventilation
and air conditioning (HVAC)
blower motor located under
the passenger's side of the
instrument panel may be
accessible to kicking by the
front seat passenger's feet.
If this occurs, the
connector terminal may
overheat, and this may cause
the wire insulation to melt
or the wiring connector to
melt. Should the wiring
insulation melts and the
exposed wires contact each
other it will result in a
short circuit and a fire
could occur. Dealers will
inspect and if the wiring
connector is damaged it will
be replaced and all vehicles
will have the protective
cover installed free of
charge. The safety recall is
expected to begin during

an interior trim piece to
either the driver's or
passenger's side a-pillar
may not have been installed
during manufacturing. In the
event of a crash resulting
in side curtain air bag
deployment, the trim piece
may not remain properly
secured to the a-pillar,
increasing the risk of
injury to the driver and/or
front seat passenger.
Dealers will inspect the
interior trim piece of the
A-pillar and if a bolt is
missing it will be installed

NEWS:
Honda
recalls 440,000 cars for
airbag risk
DETROIT
(Reuters) - July 31, 2009 - Honda Motor Co
said on Friday that it is
recalling another 440,000
vehicles -- including some
of its best-selling Accord
and Civic models -- for a
potentially lethal airbag
defect.
Honda said
that the airbag inflators in
some of its top-selling
sedans can rupture because
of too much air pressure
causing metal fragments to
shoot through the airbag and
strike vehicle occupants.
One
fatality and a number of
injuries have been linked to
the defect, Honda spokesman
Sage Marie said.
The recall
covers certain 2001 and 2002
Accords, 2001 Civics and
some 2002 and 2003 model
Acura TL sedans. The
driver's side airbag is the
defective component on the
affected vehicles
Honda said
owners of those models can
check to see if their
vehicle is covered by the
recall by checking the
automaker's website at
www.owners.honda.com/recalls.
The
Japanese automaker said it
was encouraging owners to
wait until they received a
recall notice to go to a
dealership and have the
inflator for the
steering-wheel airbag
replaced.
Honda had
originally announced that it
would recall some 2001
Accord and Civic sedans for
the defect last November.
The notice
issued on Friday added
another 440,000 vehicles to
the recall.

FEBRUARY 2009 --
Honda is recalling 421 MY
2009 Odyssey vehicles.
During assembly, incorrect
front brake hoses were
installed. The brake hose
can contact the caliper bolt
and over time a hole may
develop which will allow
brake fluid to leak. This
would eventually result in
reduced brake system
performance. Drivers would
not be aware of brake system
failure and braking
capability would not be
possible, increasing the
risk of a crash. Dealers
will inspect both front
brake hoses and replace with
the correct brake hoses free
of charge. The recall began
on February 12, 2009. Owners
may contact Honda at

NOVEMBER 2008 --
Honda is recalling 3,940 MY 2001 Accord and
Civic vehicles. The driver's air bag
inflator could produce excessive internal
pressure. If an affected air bag deploys,
the increased internal pressure may cause
the inflator to rupture. Metal fragments
could pass through the air bag cushion
material possibly causing injury to vehicle
occupants. Dealers will replace the air bag
inflator free of charge. The recall is
expected to begin on or before December 22,
2008. 08V593
OCTOBER 2008 --
Honda is recalling 128 MY 2008-2009 Civic
sedans. A bracket that covers the fuel hose
connector is secured with a bolt and nut,
but during assembly, the nut was not
installed. In the event of a crash, the
bracket may become loose which could result
in damage to the fuel hose connector. A
damaged connector could lead to a fuel leak
and increases the risk of a fire. Dealers
will install a nut on the fuel feed hose
bracket. The recall is expected to begin
during November 2008. . 08V535
APRIL
2008 -- Honda is
recalling 351,000 MY 2003
Accord vehicles. If water
enters the windshield wiper
motor breather port, which
is designed to allow the
motor to vent warm air
during normal operation, it
can result in corrosion
inside the motor housing.
This can cause a failure of
the electrical circuit
breaker inside the motor
housing. If the circuit
breaker fails, it will cause
the windshield wiper motor
to become inoperative, which
can increase the likelihood
of a crash in certain
conditions. Dealers will
inspect the windshield wiper
motor for signs of
corrosion. If no signs of
corrosion are present, a
cover will be installed over
the wiper motor to prevent
water from entering the
wiper motor housing. If
signs of corrosion damage
are observed on the wiper
motor, the motor will be
replaced. The recall is
expected to begin on or
about June 17, 2008. This
recall was the subject of a
Preliminary Evaluation,
PE07-060, conducted by the
Office of Defects
Investigation. 08V169
FEBRUARY 2008 -- Honda
is recalling 273,000 MY
2004-2008 Acura TL vehicles.
Prolonged high under-hood
temperatures may cause the
power steering hose to
deteriorate prematurely
causing the hose to crack
and leak power steering
fluid. Power steering fluid
leaking onto a hot catalytic
converter will generate
smoke and possibly lead to
an under-hood fire. Dealers
will install a new heat
resistant power steering
hose free of charge. The
manufacturer has not yet
provided an owner
notification schedule for
this campaign. 08V091
FEBRUARY 2008 -- Honda
is recalling 129,600 MY
2004-2005 Acura TL vehicles.
If water enters the
windshield wiper motor
breather port, which is
designed to allow the motor
to vent warm air during
normal operation, it can
result in corrosion inside
the motor housing. This
could cause a failure of the
electrical circuit breaker
inside the motor housing. If
the circuit breaker fails,
it will cause the windshield
wiper motor to become
inoperative, which can
increase the likelihood of a
crash in certain conditions.
Dealers will inspect the
windshield wiper motor for
signs of corrosion. If no
signs of corrosion are
present, a snorkel tube will
be added to the wiper motor
breather port to prevent
water from entering the
wiper motor housing and foam
tape will be installed on
the cowl above the wiper
motor to direct water away
from the wiper motor. If
signs of corrosion damage
are observed on the wiper
motor, the motor will be
replaced, and the breather
tube and foam tape will also
be installed to prevent
water intrusion on the new
wiper motor. The
manufacturer has not yet
provided an owner
notification schedule for
this campaign. This recall
was the subject of a
Preliminary Evaluation,
PE07-060, conducted by the
Office of Defects
Investigation. 08V092
DECEMBER 2007 -- Honda
is recalling 43,200 MY
2005-2008 Acura RL passenger
vehicles. Prolonged high
under-hood temperatures may
cause the power steering
hose to deteriorate
prematurely causing the hose
to crack and leak power
steering fluid. Power
steering fluid leaking onto
a hot catalytic converter
will generate smoke and
possibly lead to an
under-hood fire. Dealers
will install a new heat
resistant power steering
hose. The recall is expected
to begin during January 17,
2007. 07V-551
DECEMBER 2007 -- Honda
is recalling 34,300 MY
2007-2008 Fit vehicles
originally sold in or
currently registered in the
states of Connecticut,
Delaware, Illinois, Indiana,
Iowa, Kentucky, Maine,
Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Minnesota,
Missouri, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New York, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,
Vermont, Virginia, West
Virginia, Wisconsin and the
District of Columbia. The
wire harness for the
occupant detection system
(ODS) and the occupant
position detection system (OPDS)
is routed underneath the
carpet on the driver's side
floorboard. In areas where
road salt is used, salt from
the snow on the driver's
shoes will melt and may
penetrate the carpet and
leak into the wire harness.
If the harness is exposed to
salt brine, corrosion may
occur and the wire may break
causing the SRS indicator
light to illuminate. A
failure of the ODS and OPDS
may not detect the presence
of a child seat or an
out-of-position passenger
and deployment of both the
front seat passenger's
frontal and side air bags
will not be suppressed. In
the event of a crash, a
deploying front passenger
air bag or front passenger's
side air bag will increase
the risk of injury to small
or out-of-position
occupants. Dealers will
inspect and replace the wire
harness. The recall is
expected to begin during
January 2008. 07V-549
NOVEMBER
2007 -- Honda is recalling 410 MY 2008
Ridgeline vehicles. The hole in the sheet metal front bulkhead
that serves as the base and pivot point for the hood support rod
was not punched to specification. The hood support rod may fail
to hold the hood in position due to insufficient strength. If
the hood support rod hole fails, the hood could fall increasing
the risk of injury. Dealers will inspect the prop rod base hole
and, if necessary, install reinforcement parts free of charge.
Honda telephoned all owners on November 26, 2007, asking them to
bring their vehicles in to their dealers for inspection. A
followup letter will be mailed during January 2008. 07V542
AUGUST 2007 --
Honda is recalling 182,756 MY
2006-2007 Civic sedan and coupe model vehicles. The wheel speed
sensor housing uses an O-ring seal to prevent leakage to or from
the wheel bearing. If assembled improperly, the O-ring may not
seal properly allowing water to enter the wheel bearing and
eventually cause damage to the bearing, especially in areas
where use of road salt is prevalent. If the driver continues to
drive with this condition, it is possible for the wheel bearing
to become loose, which could cause the bearing to fail. This
could cause a wheel to fall off of the vehicle, possibly
resulting in a crash. Dealers will inspect the rear ABS sensors
and wheel bearings for damaged parts and replace them. The
recall began on September 25, 2007. 07V399
AUGUST 2007 --
Honda is recalling 19,904 MY 2006
Civic sedan and hybrid vehicles. During assembly, the telescopic
steering column mechanism may have been over-lubricated with
silicone grease. Over time, some of this extra grease may drip
on the brake light switch causing the switch to fail. Failure
may result in a loss of brake lights and an increased risk that
the vehicle could be struck in the rear. In addition, a failed
brake light switch could prevent shifting the transmission from
the park position (vehicles with an automatic transmission).
Dealers will replace the brake light switch and install a
protective cover over the switch. The recall is expected to
begin during October 2007. 07V402
AUGUST 2007 --
Honda is recalling 744
MY 2008 Acura RDX vehicles
for failing conform to the
requirements of Part 567,
'Certification.' Incorrect
certification labels were
applied to these vehicles.
Some certification labels
may not contain the required
tire and rim size
information. Dealers will
remove the incorrect label
and install the correct
label. The recall is
expected to begin during
September 2007. 07V-358 |

Honda recalling 34,300 Fit subcompacts
ConsumerAffaris.com -- August 28,
2008 -- Honda is recalling 34,300 Fit subcompacts from the 2007
and 2008 model years because of a faulty wiring harness
connected to the passenger side airbag sensor.
The sensor is designed to prevent the airbags from deploying
when a child is seated in the front passenger seat.
Honda will replace the wiring harness.
The recall covers Fits that were sold or registered in 22 U.S.
states that use road salt, according to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
"Salt from the snow on the driver's shoes will melt and may
penetrate the carpet and leak into the wire harness," NHTSA
reported. "Corrosion may occur and the wire may break, causing
the SRS indicator light to illuminate."
A short-circuit, according to NHTSA can cause the front and side
airbags to deploy in a crash, even if a child is in the seat.
This "will increase the risk of injury to small or
out-of-position occupants," NHTSA reported on its Web site.
The recall covers Honda Fits sold or registered in these states:
Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New
Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode
Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the

Honda recalling 353,000 Accord
sedans over corrosion in the windshield wiper motor
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Yahoo News --
April 17, 2008 -- Honda Motor Co. is recalling 353,000
Accord sedans over possible corrosion in the windshield wiper
motor.
Honda said Wednesday the recall
involves Accords from the 2003 model year. The automaker says
water could enter an area near the windshield wiper motor and
cause corrosion.
The corrosion could cause the
electrical circuit breaker inside the motor area to fail and
could prevent the motor from working, potentially leading to a
crash.
No injuries or crashes have been
attributed to the wiper problem.
Dealers will inspect the
windshield wiper motor and install a cover over the motor if no
signs of corrosion are present. If there is corrosion, they will
replace the motor.

Honda and Acura dealers will
install a new heat resistant power steering hose free of
charge, according to NHTSA.
Wipers
Honda is also recalling 129,600 2004 to 2005 Acura TL sports
sedans because the windshield wipers can fail.
If water enters the windshield
wiper motor breather port, which is designed to allow the motor
to vent warm air during normal operation, it can result in
corrosion inside the motor housing, the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported on its web site.
This could cause a failure of
the electrical circuit breaker inside the motor housing, NHTSA
reported. If the circuit breaker fails, it will cause the
windshield wiper motor to become inoperative, which can increase
the likelihood of a crash in certain conditions, the agency
said.
Honda dealers will inspect the
windshield wiper motor for signs of corrosion. A snorkel tube
will be added to the wiper motor breather port to prevent water
from entering the wiper motors housing and foam tape will be
installed on the cowl above the wiper motor to direct water away
from the wiper motor, NHTSA reported.
Should Acura technicians discover
signs of corrosion damage to the wiper motor they will replace
the motor and install the snorkel tube and foam tape. |

Honda
Recalls 43,200 Acuras Over Fire Risk From Hose
Dec. 18, 2007 Bloomberg.com --
Honda Motor Co. is recalling 43,200 Acura RL sedans in the U.S.
to fix a power steering hose that may crack from engine heat and
possibly cause a fire.
The recall by Tokyo-based Honda affects 2005-2008 models,
according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
which posted the information yesterday on its Web site.
The cracked hose can release a volatile fluid onto a hot
catalytic converter, leading to a fire, Honda said. The
automaker received two reports of fires in Japan, triggering an
internal investigation that led to the recall, according to a
letter posted on NHTSA's Web site.
Honda began notifying owners yesterday, and dealers will install
a heat-resistant hose, according to the letter from....a lawyer
with Honda's Torrance, California-based U.S. unit.
The recall in the U.S. follows an earlier recall for the same
model in Japan filed to the country's transport ministry on Dec.
6. Honda recalled 8,657 Acuras, known as the Legend in Japan,
for the same reason, according to the filing. |
