 Last Updated  November, 2008

NEWS:    2006-2008 Mercedes-Benz GL & ML class

ConsumerReports.org -- July 21,  2008 -- Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 52,000 GL and ML class vehicles equipped with the Flex-N-Gate trailer hitch. Some of the seams connecting the hitch to the attachment bar used to connect it to the body frame do not meet specifications and may result in the hitch separating from the attachment bar.

Dealers will repair the trailer hitch and owners are urged not to use the hitch until it is repaired. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

NEWS:   Mercedes-Benz Recalls S Class Sedans

ConsumerAffaris.com -- March 25, 2008  --  Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3,283 2008 S Class luxury cars because of a faulty transistor.

“A malfunction may occur on the signal acquisition and actuation module” that controls vehicle some vehicle functions, including the center console lighting, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The transistors were improperly stored and exposed to excess humidity. “The presence of this moisture in combination with thermal stress...may damage the transistors and prevent them from properly functioning which will increase the risk of a crash,” according to NHTSA.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and replace the transistors free of charge when the recall begins in May.

Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

NEWS:   Mercedes Recalls Thousands of Cars in U.S. for Sensor

Jan. 21, 2008 (Bloomberg) -- Daimler AG, the world's second- biggest maker of luxury vehicles, is recalling more than 9,000 Mercedes-Benz diesel-engine cars in the U.S. from the 2007 model year because a potential sensor problem could cause the cars to lose power.

In certain cars, wires could separate from the crankshaft sensor frame, causing an interruption in the electrical connection to the chip holding the sensor, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a report on its recall Web site.

As a result, the car ``cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash,'' according to the report. Cars in the E, GL, M and R classes are affected, and dealers will begin replacing the sensor next month, the agency said.

Mercedes spokesmen Robert Moran and Christoph Horn didn't immediately return a call or e-mail messages seeking comment. The Wall Street Journal first reported the recall earlier today

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 9,004 MY 2007 E-Class, GL-Class, M-Class and R-Class vehicles equipped with diesel engines. The crankshaft sensor could fail due to separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor. When this happens, the vehicle may lose power rather than enter a limp-home mode. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. The recall is expected to begin during February 2008. 08V-006

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3 MY 2007 SLR McLaren vehicles. The windshields were not installed correctly. Either the primer or activator was missing at the time of installation. The manufacturer has not yet provided a consequence for this campaign. Dealers will remove the windshields, clean and reinstall them correctly with primer and activator. The recall is expected to begin during January 2008. 07V-588

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 5,823 MY 2008 C-Class vehicles for failing to comply with some of the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." The rear outboard seat belts do not comply with the lap-belt lockability requirement which enables the lap belt portion of the belt to be locked by the user to facilitate the use of older non-latch design child restraint devices. Under certain circumstances, this situation may cause the locking mechanism not to perform as required by the standard for use with older non-latch child restraints. Dealers will replace all potentially affected seat belts. The recall is expected to begin during November 2007. 07V-465
