NOV 2014 -- Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Jetta vehicles manufactured March 1, 2010, to November 30, 2012, and 2012-2013 Beetle vehicles manufactured March 1, 2011, to July 31, 2013. The durability of the rear trailing arms may be reduced in vehicles whose rear trailing arms have been previously deformed, such as a result of a rear or side-rear impact crash. Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a sheet metal inlay on the rear axle trailing arms designed to prevent a sudden loss of control in the event of trailing arm sudden fracture, free of charge. Owners will be mailed an interim notification in November 2014 and will be mailed a second letter when remedy parts are available. NEWS: VW recalling 80,000 Tiguan SUVs and Jetta Hybrids
Detroit News @ November 17, 2013

NOVEMBER 2013 - Volkswagen AG is recalling more than 80,000 vehicles in North America for electrical issues.

The German automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it is issuing two new recalls for separate electrical issues, including more than 78,000 2009-2011 Tiguan SUVs in the United States and Canada because a fuse may overheat and melt that could cause a partial loss of exterior lighting.

Owners will be notified next month and dealers will replace the fuse with an upgraded version. The recall includes 62,155 Tiguan SUVs in the United States and 16,235 in Canada.

Earlier this month, NHTSA opened an investigation into 61,000 Tiguan SUVs because of complaints about exterior lights. Agency officials said they received 26 complaints about partial or complete loss of exterior lights in the 2009-11 VW Tiguan.

“The reports suggest the problem worsens over time with additional exterior lighting malfunctioning as the problem progresses. Most of the complaints report finding an overheated and melted fuse in the under-hood fuse box,” the NHTSA said.

An owner in October told NHTSA that, when driving 60 mph, the headlights and tail lights failed intermittently on the 2011 SUV. The dealer replaced the main fuse panel on the vehicle with 35,000 miles. Another owner told NHTSA that, after starting the SUV, the lights failed and a dealer said the fuse box had melted and it would cost $630 to repair. The owner said the dealer couldn’t guarantee it wouldn't happen again.

VW is also recalling 3,837 2013-2014 Jetta Hybrid cars in the United States because the internal gearbox lead frame may rust because of fluid additives. If rust deposits gather between electrical wiring, a short in the power supply can result in blown gearbox fuses and the failure of the gearbox hydraulic pump. The vehicle may lose power but can coast to a stop, VW said.

No failures have been reported in the United States, but VW said failures have been reported in some foreign markets the company is issuing a worldwide recall to address the issue.

VW will notify owners next month and will replace the synthetic gearbox oil with a new mineral-based oil.
