The rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized pinion spline that can allow relative motion between the nut and companion flange. If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during March 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. NEWS:  Chrysler recalls some 2013 Durango SUV's for air bag problem
DETROIT  NEWS -- August 16, 2012

AUGUST 2012 -- Chrysler Group said Thursday it is recalling 1,600 new Dodge Durango SUVs because some side air bags may not function properly.

The Auburn Hulls automaker said it will recall 1,661 2013 Dodge Durango SUVs — including 1,449 in the United States — to replace occupant-restraint control modules. The recall includes 131 in Canada and 81 in overseas markets.

The seven-passenger vehicles were assembled with mislabeled modules designed for five-passenger vehicles. An incorrect module could diminish side air bag function in some collisions, the automaker said.

Chrysler said the vehicles were built between April 11 and July 20.

Chrysler said it is unaware of any associated crashes or injuries with the defect. Most of the recalled vehicles are still on dealer lots.

The automaker will notify dealers by the end of September.

MORE RECALL INFO:

AUGUST 2012 -- Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from April 11, 2012, through July 20, 2012. Some vehicles may have been built with the incorrect airbag occupant restraint control (ORC) module. In the event of a side impact, rearward of the second row seat, the supplemental side air bag inflatable curtain may not deploy as intended, increasing the risk of occupant injury. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ORC module, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during September 2012. This is Chrysler recall number M25. Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.   12V-391

SEPTEMBER 2011 -- Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2012 Chrysler vehicles, including 200 and Town and Country models, Dodge vehicles, including Charger, Durango, Grand Caravan and Journey models and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from August 31, 2011, through September 13, 2011, that are equipped with 3.6L engines. These engines may experience connecting rod bearing failure due to debris inside the engine block. Connecting rod failure may lead to engine seizure which may increase the risk of a crash. Chrysler will notify owners and replace the engine free of charge. This is Chrysler safety recall L33. The safety recall is expected to begin during October 2011.   11V-487

JANUARY 2009 --  Chrysler is recalling 19,024 MY 2005 Dodge Durango vehicles. The fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank inlet check valve. Vehicles found to have a suspect inlet check valve will have the fuel tank assembly replaced free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during April 2009. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. This recall was the subject of a Recall Query, RQ08-005, conducted by the Office of Defects Investigation.   09V-003

DECEMBER 2007 -- Chrysler is recalling 576,418 MY 2001-2002 Dakota, Durango, Ram van and MY 2002 Ram pick-up trucks equipped with automatic transmissions. The ignition/park shift interlock system may become inoperative. This can allow the shifter to be moved out of the "park" position with the ignition key removed (or in the "lock" position). This can also allow the ignition key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the "park" position. Either of these conditions could allow the vehicle to roll away causing a crash without warning. Dealers will replace the gearshift blocker and bracket assembly. The recall is expected to begin during January 2008. 07V-555

NEWS:     Dodge Trucks Recalled

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dec 7, 2007 - Chrysler LLC said Friday it is recalling nearly 600,000 Dodge trucks and vans to address concerns that the vehicles could shift out of park without the key in the ignition.

The recall affects 576,417 2001-2002 Dodge Dakota trucks, Dodge Durango sport utility vehicles and Dodge Ram vans and the 2002 Dodge Ram pickup. In some cases, long-term wear on the gearshift assembly could erode the height of the shift blocker, creating the potential for the vehicle to shift out of park.

Chrysler spokesman Max Gates said there have been nine incidents involving injuries connected to the issue. No fatalities have been reported, he said in an e-mail.

Owners will be notified beginning in January 2008 and dealers will replace the gearshift blocker and bracket assembly.

In the interim, vehicle owners are advised to use the parking brake at all times when the vehicle is not in use, Gates said.

NEWS:   Chrysler recalls nearly 500,000 vehicles

WASHINGTON - March 9, 2007 -- After dozens of reports of fires in Dodge Durango and Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles, DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group recalled nearly 500,000 vehicles Friday.

Chrysler said it had received 66 reports of fires in Dodge Durango SUVs from the 2004-2006 model years because of electrical overloads in the driver's side instrument panel below the dashboard. The automaker said it was recalling 328,424 Durangos.

There were no crashes or injuries reported in connection to the recalls, Chrysler said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had opened defect investigations involving the Durango and Liberty.

In the Durango, Chrysler spokesman Max Gates said an integrated circuit in the instrument panel could get overloaded and lead to overheating and affect the interior lighting.

Owners will be notified about the Durango recall in April. The vehicles will be inspected and those SUVs with instrument panels that fail the review will get replacement parts.

The company said if drivers notice problems with the interior lights, they should take their vehicles to a dealer for inspection. In some cases, the interior lights will not properly dim after the doors are closed.
