AUGUST 2015 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 25, 2012, to June 25, 2015. The affected vehicles may experience the roof panel closing automatically when the non-recessed switches are pressed and the roof panel is open. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems." Because the switch is not recessed, the roof panel switch may inadvertently be pressed resulting in unintended auto-closure of the roof panel, increasing the risk of personal injury. GM will notify owners and dealers will replace the roof console accessory switch trim plate, free of charge. The recall began on August 19, 2015. GM's number for this recall is 15568. Note this recall supersedes 15V-106. Report Receipt Date: AUG 08, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V488000
Component(s): SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 48,114

SEPT 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Buick Encore vehicles manufactured August 23, 2012, to March 1, 2013, and model year 2013 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to May 1, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the driver and passenger lap belt pretensioner cables may not lock in a retracted position, allowing the seat belts to extend when pulled upon. If the seat belts do not remain locked in the retracted position when under load, the seat occupant may not be adequately restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front the driver's and the passenger's lap belt pretensioners, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. GM will send an interim notification in early October 2014 and will send a second notification when remedy parts are availble. GM's number for this recall is 14171. NEWS: GM calls back 822,000 vehicles in 6 new campaigns
Detroit News  @ July 24, 2014

JULY 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday it is recalling 822,685 vehicles worldwide — including 717,950 vehicles in the United States — in six new recall campaigns.

In the latest of a long string of callbacks, most are for minor problems. None are related to ignition switch defects that have plagued the automaker.

The recalls mean GM North America has issued a record 60 recall campaigns this year affecting 28.77 million vehicles worldwide and 25.48 million in the United States. GM revised downward its June 30 recall of Malibus, Impalas and other vehicles for ignition switch problems by 1.02 million vehicles to 6.6 million worldwide.

The biggest recall announced Wednesday covers 475,000 newer cars and trucks worldwide (414,333 in the U.S.) with power height-adjustable driver or front passenger seats. A bolt that secures the seat could fall out, letting the seat move up and down. Affected models include the 2011-12 Chevrolet Camaro; 2010-12 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain; 2011-12 Buick Regal and LaCrosse; and 2010-12 Cadillac SRX. GM is aware of one crash and three injuries linked to the defect. Dealers will replace the bolt.

“These recalls signify how we’ve enhanced our approach to safety,” said Jeff Boyer, GM’s vice president of Global Vehicle Safety. “We are bringing greater rigor and discipline to our analysis and decision-making. If we identify an issue — large or small — that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively.”

GM had decided on four of the recalls last Tuesday, and GM CEO Mary Barra disclosed the higher total before a Senate committee.

Eric Ibara, director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, said GM’s latest recalls “involve models that are currently being sold by the various GM brands, unlike earlier recalls on discontinued models. Going forward, attention will be focused on whether sales and values are impacted on these models.”

More than half of GM’s 29 million vehicles recalled this year are ignition-switch related, including 2.6 million Cobalts, Ions and other cars linked to at least 13 deaths. GM has recalled nearly all nameplates of 2014 models except the Volt and some versions of models like the Spark EV.

Other recalls announced Wednesday include:

■ 124,008 -- 2014 Chevrolet Caprice; 2014 Chevrolet SS; 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD; 2013-14 Cadillac ATS; 2014 Cadillac CTS, 2014 Cadillac ELR; 2013-14 Buick Encore; and 2014-15 GMC Sierra LD and HD vehicles. Some may have an incomplete weld on the seat-hook bracket assembly. If the weld is incomplete, dealers will replace the lower seat track. Less than 1 percent of welds are expected to require fixes. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 120,426 -- 2011-13 Buick Regals and 2013 Chevrolet Malibus that use two bulbs in each front turn signal. The driver gets a rapidly flashing turn signal arrow in the instrument cluster if both bulbs in one turn signal are burned out; but if only one bulb on either side burns out, there would be no signal to the driver. Dealers will reprogram the body control module. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or complaints.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 57,242 -- 2014 Chevrolet Impalas equipped with belt-drive electric power steering. Owners may experience reduced or no power-steering assist at start-up or while driving due to a poor electrical ground connection. If power steering is lost, a warning message is displayed on the driver information center and a chime sounds. The cars will revert to manual steering mode, requiring greater to steer, particularly at low speed. Dealers will check the ground and update the power steering control module’s software. GM is aware of one crash but no injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 1,919 -- 2014-15 Chevrolet Sparks imported from Korea assembled with lower control arm bolts that were not fastened to specification. The condition could result in separation of the lower control arm from the steering knuckle, resulting in loss of steering control. Dealers will make sure the bolts are properly tightened. GM knows of no crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 22 -- 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali vehicles in the U.S. Roof carriers may have been attached with the wrong retaining nuts, resulting in holes or tears in the roof rail air bags if they deploy. Eight of these vehicles are in dealer stock and will be repaired before being sold.

NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2013-2014 Cadillac ATS vehicles; TRANSMISSION
Report Receipt Date: JUN 19, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V338000
Component(s):  TRANSMISSION
Potential Number of Units Affected: 90,750

JULY 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to March 20, 2014, and 2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured June 10, 2013, to March 20, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from either the bracket on the transmission shifter or the bracket on the transmission. If the transmission shift cable detaches while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure the cable is properly seated at the transmission and shifter brackets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early August 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14179. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NEWS: GM recalls 3.4M cars for ignition switch problems
Detroit News  @ June 16, 2014

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Monday it is recalling nearly 3.4 million cars for ignition switch problems worldwide after reports of eight crashes and six injuries. It is one of six new recall campaigns totaling 3.6 million vehicles that was announced by the automaker.

The recall — which is similar to GM’s delayed recall of 2.6 million older Cobalt, Ion and other cars linked to 13 deaths and 54 crashes due to faulty ignition switches — comes as the automaker’s woes continue to mount. On Friday, GM recalled more than 510,000 current-generation Chevrolet Camaros for ignition switch problems linked to three crashes in which air bags failed to deploy.

In the ignition switch recall announced Monday, GM said it will rework or replace the ignition keys on some 2000-14 cars in the U.S. because the ignition switch may inadvertently move out of the “run” position if the key is carrying extra weight and experiences some jarring event. That causes the engine to stall, disabling power steering, power brakes and air bags.

Recalled cars include:

GM spokesman said now-fired engineer — who received much of the blame for the delayed recall in GM’s investigation, was the “design-release engineer” for the switches involved in the new recall announced Monday. Now-fired engineer signed off on the original Cobalt ignition switch in 2002 that didn’t meet GM’s specifications and approved an upgrade in the switch in 2005 and didn’t change the part number, the report found.

GM spokesman said the switches in the latest recall did meet GM’s specifications. He noted that unlike the Cobalt and Ion recall, the automaker isn't replacing the ignition switches, only the keys. GM will add an insert to the ignition keys of the recalled vehicles to close the slot and leave a smaller hole through which a key ring could be attached. In vehicles where the key cover has been worn, new keys with holes instead of slots will be provided free of charge.

Fixes are expected to begin in the next few weeks. Until then, owners of recalled cars are urged to remove additional weight from key chains and drive with only the ignition key.

GM said just one of the models included in the U.S. recall for ignition switch problems — which totals 3.16 million — is still in production: the previous-generation Chevrolet Impala, which is sold to rental fleets as the Impala Limited. The total number being recalled in North America — U.S., Canada, Mexico and exports — is 3.36 million.

In addition to the ignition key recall, GM also announced U.S. recalls for 165,770 vehicles in these five actions:

68,887 2013-14 Cadillac ATS and 21,863 2014 Cadillac CTS sedans. In some vehicles with automatic transmissions, the shift cable may not be fully secured to the shifter bracket or transmission bracket. If the shift cable comes out of the brackets, the driver may not be able to shift in or out of gear. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

57,192 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 GMC Sierra HD pickups to inspect for proper attachment of power steering hose clamps to the power steering pump. If hose comes loose, loss of power steering and power brakes would result. GM knows of no crashes or injuries.

16,932 2011 Cadillac CTS sedans with all-wheel drive. On some vehicles, a gasket leak where the constant velocity joint meets the rear propeller shaft may cause the rear propeller shaft to separate or become loose, making contact with the vehicle floor above and causing the rollover sensor to inflate roof-rail air bags. GM is aware of 15 unintended deployments, but injury data is unclear.

712 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes with optional Competition Sport Seats, because an unbelted child and door trim may block the passenger seat side air bag vent. Dealers will replace the bag. GM is unaware of any injuries related to this condition, but advises customers to not allow small children in the front seat until it’s serviced.

184 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups with vinyl floors and accessory all-weather floor mats purchased new with the vehicle. The mats can slip under the driver’s feet because the vinyl floors have no attachments to secure them in place. Customers are advised to take the floor mats to their dealer for a full refund. GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries.

GM has issued 44 recalls this year calling back 20 million vehicles worldwide, including 17.7 million in the United States — by far an all-time record. The tally includes some vehicles that have been called back more than once.

NEWS: General Motors is recalling certain 2013 Cadillac ATS and 2013 Cadillac XTS; and 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles.
Report Receipt Date: MAY 24, 2013
NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V220000
Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,627

JUNE 2013 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; and model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles. On the affected vehicles, the brake lamps may intermittently flash without the brakes being applied and the cruise control may disengage. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." If the brake lamps flash when the vehicle is not slowing, a following driver may not adjust vehicle speed when the vehicle is in fact braking, and the brake lamps are illuminating as intended, increasing the risk of a crash. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the body control module. The recall is expected to begin June 7, 2013. GM's recall number is 13158. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
