Report Receipt Date: SEP 08, 2016
NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V651000
Component(s): AIR BAGS , SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 3,640,162

SEPTEMBER 2016 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash. A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 16007. Report Receipt Date: OCT 09, 2015
NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V636000
Component(s): SEATS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 23

OCT 2015 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured August 14, 2013, to February 3, 2014, and Chevrolet SS vehicles manufactured August 15, 2013, to February 16, 2014. The affected vehicles received replacement seat base assemblies during repair service, but during the work, the seat position target bracket may not have been transferred from the old seat to the new one. Without the seat position target bracket, the air bag may deploy at a higher intensity than necessary. An air bag that deploys at a higher than intended level increases the risk of injury during a crash. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and, if necessary, install a seat frame equipped with a target bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 15567. Component(s): SEAT BELTS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 47,042

JULY 2015 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured October 15, 2010, to October 22, 2013, and 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 vehicles manufactured July 25, 2007, to February 18, 2009. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cables that connect the seat belts to the vehicle at the outside of the driver seat and the front passenger seat may be bent from being sat on while entering the vehicle. This repeated bending may result in the cable breaking. If the cable breaks, the seat occupant may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt tensioner assembly which includes the steel cable, free of charge. These replacement parts reposition the tensioner cable out of the path of entry into the vehicle and uses a more flexible cable, set at a more upright angle. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 15206. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NEWS: GM is recalling certain 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles; TRANSMISSION
Report Receipt Date: SEP 09, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V544000
Component(s): TRANSMISSION
Potential Number of Units Affected: 7,598

OCT 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured March 24, 2011, to December 6, 2013. The affected vehicles are Police Patrol Vehicles (PPV), equipped with a specific transmission selector lever that contains two pins that can become displaced. If the pins get displaced, the driver may be able to shift the vehicle from "Park" without depressing the brake pedal or remove the ignition key without the transmission being in "Park." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 102, "Transmission Shift Position Sequence, Starter Interlock, And Transmission Braking Effect", and No. 114, "Theft Protection And Rollaway Prevention." If the transmission can be moved from "Park" without depressing the brake pedal, unintended motion may occur increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the ignition key can be removed without the transmission being in "Park," the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift lever roll pin, replace the base pivot pin and attach a Brake Transmission Shift Interlock retention enhancement clip, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14549. Report Receipt Date: SEP 09, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V540000
Component(s): IGNITION SWITCH
Potential Number of Units Affected: 46,873

OCT 2014 -- General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured October 15, 2010, to December 6, 2013, and 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 vehicles manufactured July 25, 2007, to February 18, 2009. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine. If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. GM will notify owners, and dealers will remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies, and cut and fit a revised key blade and housing assembly, in which the blade has been indexed by 90 degrees, to the original RKE transmitter assembly. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14445. Note: Until the recall has been performed, it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NEWS: GM calls back 822,000 vehicles in 6 new campaigns
Detroit News  @ July 24, 2014

JULY 2014 -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday it is recalling 822,685 vehicles worldwide — including 717,950 vehicles in the United States — in six new recall campaigns.

In the latest of a long string of callbacks, most are for minor problems. None are related to ignition switch defects that have plagued the automaker.

The recalls mean GM North America has issued a record 60 recall campaigns this year affecting 28.77 million vehicles worldwide and 25.48 million in the United States. GM revised downward its June 30 recall of Malibus, Impalas and other vehicles for ignition switch problems by 1.02 million vehicles to 6.6 million worldwide.

The biggest recall announced Wednesday covers 475,000 newer cars and trucks worldwide (414,333 in the U.S.) with power height-adjustable driver or front passenger seats. A bolt that secures the seat could fall out, letting the seat move up and down. Affected models include the 2011-12 Chevrolet Camaro; 2010-12 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain; 2011-12 Buick Regal and LaCrosse; and 2010-12 Cadillac SRX. GM is aware of one crash and three injuries linked to the defect. Dealers will replace the bolt.

MORE RECALL INFO:

“These recalls signify how we’ve enhanced our approach to safety,” said Jeff Boyer, GM’s vice president of Global Vehicle Safety. “We are bringing greater rigor and discipline to our analysis and decision-making. If we identify an issue — large or small — that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively.”

GM had decided on four of the recalls last Tuesday, and GM CEO Mary Barra disclosed the higher total before a Senate committee.

Eric Ibara, director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, said GM’s latest recalls “involve models that are currently being sold by the various GM brands, unlike earlier recalls on discontinued models. Going forward, attention will be focused on whether sales and values are impacted on these models.”

More than half of GM’s 29 million vehicles recalled this year are ignition-switch related, including 2.6 million Cobalts, Ions and other cars linked to at least 13 deaths. GM has recalled nearly all nameplates of 2014 models except the Volt and some versions of models like the Spark EV.

Other recalls announced Wednesday include:

■ 124,008 -- 2014 Chevrolet Caprice; 2014 Chevrolet SS; 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD; 2013-14 Cadillac ATS; 2014 Cadillac CTS, 2014 Cadillac ELR; 2013-14 Buick Encore; and 2014-15 GMC Sierra LD and HD vehicles. Some may have an incomplete weld on the seat-hook bracket assembly. If the weld is incomplete, dealers will replace the lower seat track. Less than 1 percent of welds are expected to require fixes. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 120,426 -- 2011-13 Buick Regals and 2013 Chevrolet Malibus that use two bulbs in each front turn signal. The driver gets a rapidly flashing turn signal arrow in the instrument cluster if both bulbs in one turn signal are burned out; but if only one bulb on either side burns out, there would be no signal to the driver. Dealers will reprogram the body control module. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or complaints.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 57,242 -- 2014 Chevrolet Impalas equipped with belt-drive electric power steering. Owners may experience reduced or no power-steering assist at start-up or while driving due to a poor electrical ground connection. If power steering is lost, a warning message is displayed on the driver information center and a chime sounds. The cars will revert to manual steering mode, requiring greater to steer, particularly at low speed. Dealers will check the ground and update the power steering control module’s software. GM is aware of one crash but no injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 1,919 -- 2014-15 Chevrolet Sparks imported from Korea assembled with lower control arm bolts that were not fastened to specification. The condition could result in separation of the lower control arm from the steering knuckle, resulting in loss of steering control. Dealers will make sure the bolts are properly tightened. GM knows of no crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

■ 22 -- 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali vehicles in the U.S. Roof carriers may have been attached with the wrong retaining nuts, resulting in holes or tears in the roof rail air bags if they deploy. Eight of these vehicles are in dealer stock and will be repaired before being sold.

NEWS: GM recalls 472,000 vehicles in 3 new campaigns
Detroit News  @ June 27, 2014

JUNE 2014 -- General Motors Co. said late Friday it is issuing three new recall campaigns covering about 472,000 vehicles worldwide.

The latest recalls mean that GM has called back about 20.5 million vehicles worldwide this year including 18 million in the United States.

The largest of the recalls announced Friday covers about 465,000 new SUVs and pickup trucks that could accidentally shift into neutral while driving — or roll away if the parking brake is not set in unattended vehicles. It affects some 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras; the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban; and the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

Dealers will recalibrate transfer-case control module software. GM said that in these vehicles, the transfer case may electronically switch to neutral without the shifter being moved. If this occurs while a vehicle is in motion, no power will go to the wheels. If the vehicle is parked, it may roll away if the parking brake is not set. GM is not aware of crashes or injuries related to the issue.

The recall covers 392,459 pickups and SUVs in the U.S. and 53,607 in Canada. An additional 20,874 were sold elsewhere.

MORE RECALL INFO:

GM also is also recalling nearly 4,800 Chevrolet Caprice police cars and 2014 Chevrolet SS sport sedans in the United States for windshield wiper problems. If the motor gear teeth become stripped, the wipers may not operate. Dealers will inspect, and replace if necessary, the windshield wiper module assembly. GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries.

MORE RECALL INFO:

The rear shock absorbers in 1,939 2014 model-year Chevrolet Corvettes in the U.S. with the FE1 or FE3 suspension may have insufficient welds that could lead to a fracture or reduce the shocks’ service life. Dealers will replace the shocks. Thirty-three additional vehicles were sold in Canada and another 82 were exported. GM is unaware of crashes or injuries.
