NOVEMBER 2016 -- Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 RX-8 vehicles manufactured April 10, 2003, to February 18, 2008. The affected vehicles have fuel pump sealing rings that may deteriorate due to exposure to heat from the engine or exhaust pipe. The deteriorated seals may leak fuel, which, in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump sealing ring set and add a thermal insulation pad to the fuel tank, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Mazda will notify owners about the issue and will second a second notice when remedy parts are available. The manufacturer did not provide a schedule for these notifications. JANUARY 2016 -- Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2003-2008 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured May 29, 2002, to May 5, 2008, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2005, to June 29, 2007, and a limited production of model year 2004 RX-8 vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, to June 30, 2003. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger's frontal air bag with a new one, free of charge. Mazda's number for this recall is 9015L. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 13V-130 and 14V-362 in their entirety. This recall partially supersedes recall 14V-773 in that model year 2003-2006 Mazda6 vehicles covered by that recall are now covered by this campaign. APRIL 2013 -- Mazda is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured January 14, 2003, through May 29, 2003; and 2004 RX-8 vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through June 30, 2003, to address a safety defect in the passenger side air bag which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the passenger seat occupant or other occupants. Owners of all vehicles on which a defective air bag may have been installed as original equipment will be notified. Dealers will inspect vehicles, and where a defective air bag inflator is identified, the inflator will be replaced, free of charge. The safety recall will begin in May 2013.
